Satelite hackathon – remote land survey
SIT Port in cooperation with the startup World from space hosted Satellite Hackathon – remote sensing. Hackathon was designed for high school and university students interested in satellite image processing. Students were looking for the possibility of using satellite data, data analysis using Python and QGIS.
What was the goal of the project?
Utilization of satellite images and processing of acquired data on the Earth’s surface. The participants used the data for their own idea of how to use them creatively to solve the problems of the city of Pilsen. They had experienced mentors at their side, who advised them all the time, and at the same time introduced them to the possibilities of starting their own business. The event lasted two days and ended with an award ceremony. The authors of the most successful projects received valuable prizes as motivation.
What projects we have been working on?
- parts of water areas, greenery, forests, built-up areas
- infiltration of water
- influence of the type of buildings/areas on temperatures (why the green areas, green roofs, water areas, etc. are good for us)
- shares of different types of land use in Pilsen
